Golcar United Ladies Open Pre-Season with Encouraging Win at Liversedge

Golcar United Ladies kicked off their 2025/26 pre-season campaign with a 3-1 away victory over Liversedge FC in Sunday’s early fixture.

A Positive First Step
The game provided a valuable opportunity to integrate new faces and give minutes to younger players stepping up into the senior squad. With a number of tactical ideas being trialled and some positional flexibility on display, the team showed early signs of identity and cohesion.

Led on the day by club captain Robyn Peel, Golcar remained calm in and out of possession, working hard to stay compact as a unit while looking to break forward with purpose.

Three Goals and Plenty to Build On
The goals came from two players, highlighting the attacking depth beginning to emerge in the squad. Tiah Smith, a recent signing who arrived as a full back but is also comfortable further forward, made an instant impact with two goals. Larissa Lawson added the third, continuing to offer the kind of direct running and selfless work that has become a hallmark of her game.

Liversedge responded with a goal of their own and continued to compete throughout, but Golcar managed the game well and finished strongly.

Focus, Hunger, and Unity
Manager Nathan Martin was pleased with the display and the attitude shown across the pitch:
“Great start for the ladies. A 3-1 win against a very good Liversedge side. The players took on everything we asked of them and showed real maturity on the ball. There’s still plenty to work on, but the signs are really positive. The younger ones stepped in with no fear, and the more experienced players gave them the support they needed. A solid first step.”

Speaking after reviewing the performance, Assistant Manager Stewart Alexander added:
“What really stood out to me wasn’t just the result, but the intent. Players were brave on the ball, they communicated well, and there were some really smart decisions in key moments. The flexibility and togetherness in this group are starting to show. From everything I’ve seen and heard, this was a great start to the journey ahead.”

Injury News
The only downside to the afternoon came with the news that goalkeeper Demi Wood sustained a fractured ankle during the match. Demi will now face a spell on the sidelines as she begins her recovery, and everyone at the club wishes her a full and speedy return to action.
