Golcar United Ladies Secure Hard-Fought Away Victory Against Skipton Firsts in Premier Division

Golcar United Ladies returned from Skipton with a valuable three points after edging a closely contested Premier Division encounter 1–0 against Skipton Firsts.

Played in light rain on a 4G surface at Sandylands Grass Pitches, this was never going to be a free-flowing spectacle. Instead, it proved to be a disciplined and patient performance built on resilience and focus.

First Half

Both sides began cautiously in what quickly developed into a tight midfield battle. Chances were limited, with neither team able to create clear-cut opportunities before the break.

At half-time, Golcar made a tactical change with Elle-Mae Leitch replacing Emily Holroyd, helping to steady the shape and maintain control as the game remained finely balanced.

Second Half

The second period followed a similar pattern, with both sides competing strongly in an evenly matched contest.

Skipton were handed a major opportunity in the 75th minute when they were awarded a penalty. However, the spot kick was missed, keeping the score level and giving Golcar renewed belief heading into the final stages.

That moment proved pivotal.

In the 80th minute, Golcar produced the decisive breakthrough.

A well-worked team move saw Faith Forde provide the assist for Tiah Smith, who calmly placed her finish into the bottom right corner to give Golcar a 1–0 lead.

Further substitutions saw Caitlin Caselton replace Ruby Greaves on 61 minutes and Phoebe Senior come on for Megan Egdell in the 72nd minute as Golcar managed the closing stages professionally.

The final whistle confirmed a hard-earned clean sheet and an important away victory.

Manager’s Reaction

Manager Nathan Martin reflected after the match:

“Disappointed but proud of the three points, but we’ll learn from this.”

A result secured through discipline and patience in difficult conditions, and another important step forward in the Premier Division campaign.
