Golcar United Ladies Share Eight-Goal Thriller with Huddersfield Town U23s

Golcar United Ladies played out a pulsating 4-4 draw against Huddersfield Town U23s at Storthes Hall in hot and humid conditions, showing resilience and attacking flair against a skilful and energetic opponent.

Fast-Paced Contest

Huddersfield’s young side started brightly, moving the ball with speed and confidence. Golcar responded in kind, keeping their shape well and looking dangerous whenever they broke forward. Despite limited substitutions, every player worked tirelessly in the heat, making for an end-to-end contest that demanded full concentration throughout.

Tandy Hat-Trick

Paige Tandy led the way with a well-earned hat-trick, each goal reflecting the variety of attacking options Golcar are developing.

  • Her first came from a superb line-breaking assist out of the defensive third by centre-back Trinity Cundell, releasing Tandy to finish clinically.
  • The second followed a perfectly weighted through ball from Ruby Greaves, who returned from illness to make an immediate impact in midfield.
  • The third was created by in-form Megan Egdell, whose penetrating pass carved open the defence for Tandy to strike again.

Buckley Stunner

The pick of the goals belonged to Lauren Buckley, who produced a moment of instinct and bravery. Pressing high, Golcar forced an error, and Buckley reacted first, striking from 40 yards out. Her shot flew over the stranded goalkeeper and into the net; a breathtaking effort that stunned the hosts and reminded everyone of her eye for the spectacular.

Resilient Performance

Huddersfield’s sharp movement ensured Golcar were always tested, with the opposition punishing lapses in defensive positioning. Still, Golcar’s resilience, fitness, and togetherness shone through, particularly in the closing stages when legs were heavy.

Lily Taylor made an important late save to preserve the draw, underlining the squad’s determination not to leave empty-handed.

Manager Nathan Martin praised his team’s performance:

“This was a proper test for us. Huddersfield had real pace and quality on the ball, but what pleased me was how we matched them and kept believing in our football. Paige’s goals came from excellent team play, and Loz’s strike showed her instincts and awareness. It was a strong effort in tough conditions, and we’ll only improve from here.”

Assistant Manager Stewart Alexander added his reflections:

“When you review a game like that, you see both the challenges and the progress. There were times we could have managed situations better, but overall, the quality of our attacking play was excellent. The players trusted each other, kept moving the ball with confidence, and showed real character when it got tough. This is exactly the kind of momentum we need to carry into the season.”
